Depends on the breed of turtle.Water turtles should be kept in a filterd tank or small indoor pond with rocks so it can get out of the water if it wants.Water MUST BE KEPT CLEAN AT ALL TIMES.Turtles can get a fungis infection that can cause the shell to peel and become soft.Very hard to cure and can be fatal.Human can also get infected by infected turtles.Raw groud meat rolled into small balls is a nice treat once in a while. .Land turtles such as box turtles ,ect. should be kept in an enclosure with dirt or sod,not sand.Sand can cause irritation between toes or inside the shell.They love large nightcrawlers and fresh dandelions.They like to swim once in a while too.All turtles caught in the wild should be returned to the place of capture with plenty of time to prepare for winter hibernation.
