There are three BYU locations. The main school is in Provo, Utah and is simply called BYU. There is also BYU-Idaho in Rexburg and BYU-Hawaii in Laie.
None. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) owns four universities, two in Utah (BYU and LDS Business College), one in Idaho (BYU-Idaho) and one in Hawaii (BYU-Hawaii).
There isn't really a "BYU" alternative. Many who do not get into BYU Provo apply to attend BYU Idaho or BYU Hawaii. Many also apply to attend Utah Valley University (UVU) which is a state school in the same area as BYU.
Generally, educated and married.
BYU-Idaho is a relatively small religiously based university. It is located in the southeast Idaho town of Rexburg, where most residents are affiliated with the school in some way. The campus is very nice and modern. The student body has grown a lot in recent years so many of the buildings are new. The buildings are also close to each other and convenient. The vast majority of students (around 95%) are practicing Mormons, and the school is operated by the Mormon Church. BYU-Idaho has some very strict rules compared to most universities. Each student and faculty member is required to adhere to a code of conduct. Alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and sex outside of marriage are strictly forbidden. A modest dress code is enforced. Cheating and dishonesty are absolutely not tolerated. Also as a part of this code of conduct, everyone is required to attend worship services weekly. It is not unusual at BYU-Idaho for a class (even math or science) to open with a prayer. Overall, if you like a small friendly environment, or if you are religiously conservative, you will probably like BYU-Idaho.
Some of the best family oriented colleges to attend are BYU in Provo, Utah, or BYUI in Idaho, or even BYUH in Hawaii.
