Teething can be stressful for some kittens, and many kittens will attempt to bite EVERYTHING it comes across to relieve the discomfort, so don't be alarmed if your kitten bites you unusually hard or with a certain desperation - they're not being spiteful, they just don't realise how hard they can bite! Kittens particularly love chewing plastic drinking straws, cardboard and leather belts to help relieve their sore gums. There are some kittens that show no outward discomfort, however.
A kitten's teeth and gums are probably very sensitive and sore right now, sometimes so that it will refuse to eat any dry food; its just too hard and painful to crunch. If your kitten goes off its food, it is advisable to look inside his mouth to see if there's any redness on the edge of this gums. Try feeding some wet food and if the kitten has no trouble eating that, and is acting normally then there isn't too much to worry about.
To help, the best thing to give kittens to chew on are yielding substances that let them sink their teeth into and to stimulate their gums, such as cardboard, leather and stuffed toys. My own kitten, when he was 5 months old and in the middle of teething, he loved chewing cardboard and scrunched-up paper balls are his favourite chew-toys.
Ice is always a great way to soothe sore gums! A great way to do this is to wet a washcloth, wring it out, roll it loosely, and let it sit in the freezer overnight.

∙ 13y agoOkay, I have 2 kittens so this might help. If you go to a pet store there would be little stuffed animals or something stuffed. Those are Chewables so if you buy them, then bring your kitten over when he/she starts biting you get the little chewable then interfere the chewable with the kitten and what ever it is biting and then it will start nipping and biting on that but if it doesn't work then when ever he/she is biting put it in between her/his fore legs (if you are holding it like a baby or he/she is lying down somewhere) then wiggle the chewable and likely he/she will start nipping it. It is just like playing with the kitten! Sorry, if it didn't work!

When my cat was younger and teething, I found the best teething toys to be homemade - such as a scrunched up paper balls and cardboard. Leather is also a fantastic material to chew on as like paper and cardboard, it is soft enough for the kitten to really bite into! If the teething is particularly bad, try winding up a dampened small towel or washcloth and putting it in the freezer overnight. Once frozen, it'll be nice and cold and will help ease any pain in the gums and generally be refreshing. The last thing, is to try and refrain from playing with your kitten with your hands. Always use toys for him to chase and attack and bite. This is useful in later life as he will not be in a habit with playing with your hands (which does hurt once they are bigger). Teething generally stops when the kitten is six or seven months old.
