What is the best time of year to go rome?

Any time as Rome is an all-year holiday destination. The spring or autumn are probably better as Rome is less crowded, and the weather is not so hot. Rome is quite a polluted city and so car fumes can be a problem in the hot, dry summer. I the spring, Easter celebrations at the Vatican are worth going to, and the main sites are all open ready for the summer. Don't miss the Vatican - the world's smallest independent country - that is completely surrounded by Rome (no passports needed to get in!) although the Swiss guard there will impress you by their toughness despite their rather strange uniform. Don't think that just because they dress in short 'skirts' they are not tough soldiers - they are. St Peter's basilica (and his tomb) in the Vatican is one of the world's largest churches. The Vatican museums are full of wonderful art treasures, and the Sistine Chapel is one of Michaelangelo's masterpieces. Also, don't miss the Colliseum - site of many a gladiator battle, the Pantheon, the best preserved Roman temple existing and now a church, the Forum, the ancient Roman 'town centre' and The Trevi Fountain (don't forget to throw 3 coins in it to ensure that you come back to Rome one day!). If you are able, visit St Paul's Basilica on the outskirts of the city, the burial place of St Paul the Apostle. One of the most moving places that I visited in Rome three years ago was the catacombs - underground tunnels where the Romans buried their dead, and where the earliest Christians hid during the persecution in the reign of Emperor Nero. The best ones I found were the catacombs of St Sebastian (below his tomb and church) which are on the old Appian Way (the ancient road along which Spartacus - aka Kirk Douglas! - was crucified along with thousands of his co-conspirators). Spring and fall are ideal times to visit Italy. The weather is more mild, as are the crowds and hotel rates. Airfare will likely be cheaper as well. The summer is a popular time to visit Italy but it can be very hot, humid and crowded.

It depends on where you are going in Italy. I just got back from Rome a week and half ago and the weather was great; Low 80's and sunny the whole time. It gets extremely hot in the summer time and fairly cold in the winter, so spring and fall have the best weather unless you are going to any beaches, in which case early summer would be best.

go and visit Rome in the spring or at the fall seasons. It is definatly the best time when in june until August it is very hot.
