Autumn transplants can be a bit easier to effectuate since it's crystal clear when the plant is dormant because of not producing fruit and because of shedding all its leaves whereas spring transplants need to be carried out before active growth and when the soil is workable. Either will work, with those in favor of autumnal transplants citing "roughing it" through the winter as usually less fatal than a transplant attempting to become established while experiencing its first summer of plentiful heat and scarce water.
