It is strictly a matter of personal experience. I have always thought that Whirlpool (Kenmore brand for Sears) is the best brand of washer and dryer based upon overall reliability and affordability over many years since the mid-1950s.

∙ 11y agoMaytag is one that I like. But here is my observation. All brands make cheap ones to compete on price. A dealer once showed me (years ago) two identical washing machines but priced differently. He opened the back and showed me that the cheaper one had all plastic nuts bolts washers etc..etc and the higher priced one had all metal and stronger parts, stronger belt... Both look good on the outside but one will last longer and take some abuse.

That's backwards, as a washer is much heavier than a dryer, particularly when it's full of water. There are over/under units, but you can't simply set a regular dryer on top of a regular washer (or vice versa, which is a bad idea anyway).
