Yes that is correct the only way you can connect a PS3 to the internet is either through the Ethernet cable or through the WiFi wireless connection to a Broadband internet service. The USB ports can not be used to connect the PS3 to the internet in any manner.
First you need a wireless internet connection before you can connect the PS3 to wireless internet. You can not connect the PlayStation without already having internet service. If you have wireless internet service then you go to the PlayStation 3 settings to network connections. If you do not have a wireless internet, but have internet service you purchase a wireless Router and install it first before going to the PS3 setting for network connection. You can also connect a wired system running an ethernet cable from your router to the back of the PS3 and then going to the setting for network connection.
If you already have HughesNet satellite internet you might see how it connects to your computer. PS3 can only be connected with either a Ethernet Cable or a wireless signal. You can not use the USB port in the front of the PS3 to connect to the internet. PS3 is supposed to work only with broadband or DSL. The related link for Hughesnet listed a phone number and they indicated that while it would work it would provide poor online game performance and was not recommended. They did say that it connected to the PC or other device with an ethernet cable.
Yes with a wireless router and connect the PS3 by the ethernet port to a wireless ethernet bridge. see related link
Sony has not released a wireless adapter specifically for the PS3; however you may purchase a wireless internet bridge and connect that way. anonymous@oola.com
In order to go online on the PS3 system, you first need to have an Internet resource; either an ethernet cable or a wireless router. Start the PS3 system and, after you log in, go to the settings tab. Scroll all the way down to " Network Settings". Press the "X" button. Scroll to the middle option, which should be something like "Network Connections", or "Connect to the Internet. Follow the on-screen steps and, "Presto", you are finished.
the internet is a low cost way to connect members
The easiest way is directly connected to a modem/router or router. You'll need a cross-over cable (included with your PS3), or can use the wireless function if your router supports it.
No there is not a system to dial in the PS3 and the speed would be too slow. You also can not use the USB port to connect a dongle or something because it was not designed to allow an internet connection through the USB port. Only WiFi and ethernet will allow an internet connection on the PS3
If you go to setting, scroll ALL the way down to network settings there should be Internet connection set this to wireless and it should scan for a wireless connection then you must enter your password etc...
The best way to connect the PS3 to a TV is with an HDMI cable. You must have a TV with HDMI input and you must purchase the cable as it does not come with the PS3. If your TV does not have an input for an HDMI cable or you do not want to purchase the cable you can use the color coded plugs on the cable that comes with the slim PS3 game console to plug it into your TV and the HDMI plug into your PS3 console.
To the best of my knowledge, the only way to update any PS3 game is to have your PS3 connected to the internet. If your console is connected to the internet, it will automatically install any game updates available when you select the game from the main menu. If you do not have internet connectivity, I do not think you are able to update your games.
