If you are heading straight into a puddle with all four tires, hold the wheel tight and keep it straight. Don't turn unless you have lot's of space and the water is no deeper than like 8 inches. If you're hitting one with just the right two tires or just the left two turn the wheel so you're pulling very lightly away from the puddle as the puddle will pull the vehicle. Avoid punching the gas whenever going through a puddle unless you're in an spacious area. Keep your windows up. :D

it must have gotten sucked in through the carburetor. a deep puddle could cause a large splash of water and some amount of that water must have gone into the air cleaner and got sucked into the motor that way.
The best way to escape if a sudden flood is coming is to try to get to higher ground. Do not drive or walk through moving water.
