If you don't have a lighter or a match! .....

Roll a stick between the hands while pressing one end against the other stick.

Alternatively, if you make a groove in one stick, rub the other stick back and forth in the groove.

Have some tinder ready, or some dry straw, so that you can apply it to the hot wood when it is ready to ignite, and set fire to it.
