The best way to shingle a peak with asphalt shingles is to stabilize boards along the peak for safety. Continue to shingle the asphalt shingles to the peak working from the bottom edges of the roof peak. Nail two nails on the lower portion on both sides to hold in place. Continue until finished.

How do you install ridge cap using 3 tab shingles?

Cut the shingles into three individual tabs. Center a tab over the peak and put one nail on each side above the tar strip. Lay the next one over it as you would a shingle and continue to the end. On the last one, you will have to surface nail the shingle.

How many bundles of shingles for 3600 square feet?

100 square feet is called a 'square'. Given that, you roof is 36 'squares'. Shingle coverage for 20, 25, and 30 year shingles is 3 bundles per square. 40 and 50 year shingles are 4 bundles per square. Say the shingle you select has a coverage of 3 bundles per sqaure: the number of bundles you need would be 3 * 36, plus the amount for caps (which cover the 'peaks' and 'hips' in your roof. To estimate the amount of bundles you need for peaks, assume one bundle for every 25 feet of 'hip' or 'peak' you need to cover.

How do you do asphalt shingle roofing?

It's good to have someone teach you the first time. It's worth the expense to pay someone to train you, since it's so easy to mess up a shingle job, then you have to live with a leaky roof. There are several things to watch for, such as the first course needs to be offset from another course of shingles. The tabs should be cut off the bottom course and the sticky surface should be near the drip-edge. Then the next course should align with the drip edge or hang over slightly. Plan on using a "chalk line" every 5 courses to make sure the shingles remain straight. Overlap a "half tab" on every shingle course. Make sure there are 2 courses UNDER any flashing metal or vent flashing. cut carefully around flashings to keep an even gap.MAKE SURE YOU USE METAL FLASHING on chimneys and any other vertical surface. Go up the side AT LEAST as high as the normal snowfall/ice dam potential. No nails should be visible, all nails should be covered by the NEXT course of shingles. If you do it right, your roof should need NO adhesive or sealant. Remember that water from the shingle above should ALWAYS fall on the next shingle, nothing else. You'll be far better off if you strip the old roof, repair any damaged or rotted wood, put down rolled ice dam protectant (instead of tar paper) and use the chalk line frequently, measuring an equal distance from the ROOF RIDGE down.Good luck.

How many square feet in a bundle of asphalt roof shingles?

Multiply the length by the width of one side of a gabled roof and then multiply by the slope (pythagorean theorm; e.g. 9 squared + 12 squared = 15 squared) and double it (two sides to a roof). This suare footage will give you the amount to divide by a bundle of shingles which covers 32 sq. ft.

What size of roof would 51 bundle of shingles cover?

Depends is the shingles are 3 bundle or 4 bundle to a Square (100 sq ft.) This information can be found on the shingle wrapper. To determine how many bundle of shingles you need measure the width and length of your roof to the nearest foot. Use this formula to determine area Length x width= area . For example: one side for your roof from peak to eve measures 17' and from rake to rake measures 50' . 17 x 50= 850 since there are two sides of a roof multiply by 2 = 1700 Sq. foot. Now divide by 100 since there are 100 sq foot in one Square. =17 square. Now multiply the number of Square by the number of bundles required to cover one Square 17 x 3 = 51 bundle of shingle. Other tips, one bundle of 3-tab shingles will cover about 25 lineal feet when used for cap.

How many sqs of shingles will it take to cover a peak roof 22ftx26ft?

Is the 22x26 one side of the roof or the length and width of the building? A square of shingles is 100 square feet. Measure one side if they are the same and double that amount. Height times width will give the square footage.

How do you kill algae in shower and on roof shingles?

I'm not to sure but you could replace all the roofing with new shingles dark enough to disguise the staining, or with shingles laced with copper granules, which are lethal to algae. But that would only make sense if the shingles were worn out. To keep the algae from coming back, insert 6-inch-wide strips of zinc or copper under the row of shingling closest to the roof peak, leaving an inch or two of the lower edge exposed to the weather.
