You can always start it saying "hey" if he does not say something back he is probably not interested in talking to you. You can ask him what he is doing, but don't do this all the time or you will appear stalkerish. Depending on what he says back you can add on to that subject to keep the conversation going. You can also state what is going on in life like "the company is a mess". Or even ask him questions such as "How was the dance?" Remember to be confident and you are a star!
