The Yellowstone Caldera in northwestern Wyoming (Yellowstone Park) is the world's largest active volcanic feature, or "supervolcano." The caldera is about 34 x 25 miles (area about 800 square miles) and overlays a massive magma chamber, which has created eruptions and lava floods several times in the past 2 million years. But today its main activity consists of geysers and geothermal pools.
Less active, but perhaps similar in area, is the Lake Toba Caldera on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia (total extent about 62 x 19 miles, area 440 square miles). It only currently releases steam and gases, and is beneath the world's largest volcanic lake.
