It is where Henry VIII created the church of England and was excommunicated by the pope. He did this so he could have a male heir to the throne by marrying Anne Bolyn as his current wife, Catherine of Aragon, was too old to give birth to any more children.

The English Reformation. Henry banned all Catholic services and rites, took church lands, closed churches, took money and treasure, burned books, and created the Church of England. He also passed a law that no king or queen of England can be Catholic. To be a Catholic in England was against the law and many Catholic priests held services in hidden spots and homes.
