As a general rule, you can't ID caliber by sn. It should be marked on the barrel. If not, take it to a gunsmith for a chamber cast.
By including the serial number in your question.
marlin 35 cal. lever action. rifle/ Marlin makes the rifle ,but not the ammo for it.
Look on the barrel. It should be marked. If you can't read it, take it to a gunsmith for a chamber cast. Generally, you can't tell the caliber form the serial number. If you had provided more of a description (bolt, pump, lever) maybe someone would be able to find it in the book written by Brophy on Marlin.
no this is a rare rifle. I believe they were mgf 1988 - 1995
I have a marlin Safety with a ser# 40098. I believe it is a model 1894, do not know the cal. Can you tell me anything? With the serial number 119,755.Your Marlin safety model 1894 rifle was made in the year 1895.The serial number 40098 indicates that this Marlin rifle was made in the year 1890.
Serial numbers were not required before 1968. Try looking on the receiver.
SN's not required before 1968
Made in 1888
Your Marlin .22cal rifle was made in the year 1980.Subtract the first 2 numbers from the year 2000.Hence 2000-20=1980.
Was there a marlin 22 cal. bolt-action rifle made in 1920's?
