Willemstad is the capital of Netherlands Antilles or the Dutch Antilles. However, the kingdom of Netherlands decided its dissolution on October 10, 2010 with Sint Marteen and Curacao becoming two new constituent countries. Aruba became independent back in 1986.
This development gives each one of them their own capitals - Curacao retained Willemstad as its capital, Sint Marteen has Phillipsburg, and the capital of Aruba is Oranjestad.
Despite this dissolution, Netherlands Antilles remains to be a luxury destination among those seeking island adventure. Fine beaches, marine wildlife, and great water sports converge together to make these islands perfect holiday spots.
Until October 10th, 2010 the Netherlands Antilles (in Dutch Nederlandse Antillen, in Papiamento Antias Hulandes) was a country and a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The capital city of the Netherland Antilles was Willemstad, which is also the capital city of Curaçao.
