The exterior surface of the foreskin is just like most of the skin that covers the body. It is classified as keratinized stratified squamous epithelium.

However the interior of the foreskin is more like the inside of the mouth, a soft and sensitive mucous membrane. It is classified as non-keratinized stratified squamous epithelium. The inner foreskin is designed to protect the delicate and sensitive glans (head) of the penis.

It is also endowed with a very high amount of nervous tissue making it a source of pleasure/
