Lipids form the cell membrane cells. In all eukaryotic cells (animal, which human fall under as well), there is a phospholipid bilayer membrane in which the hydrophobic tails of the lipid face each other with the hydrophilic heads face the extracellular fluid and intracellular fluid. Lipids are also important in cellular metabolism and the catabolism of the lipids in to fatty acids and other needed micronutrients.
