That answer is going to vary widely depending on who you ask (patient or employer), and what type of home care you are planning to do. I would say the most important things would be reliability, flexibility, and excellent communication skills. A home care nurse also has to be able to work independently, since there is no one else in the home to pick up the slack or help you out.
An ideal home nurse, will provide competent care, and will hep address any of the families concerns. Incorporating the family into care and providing them an understanding of the processes going on is ideal since families are with the patient most often.
