the cheapest believe it or not is a quality tune up. make sure timing is on and carb air fuel is set right.
other thoughts are HEI ignition. they are cheap at the bone yard and work very well. they are durable and dependable. they do not have points to bounce and fail. good four barrel carb intake combo. you can get a good edelbrock performer on e-bay for less than a 100 bucks. as well an edelbrock carb for about the same. make sure to rebuild the carb. always keep in mind tuning, tuning, tuning... the best parts in the world are junk if tuning is poor.

10w-40 pre 89. After 89, 5w-30. For high performance, I would advise a single weight, that works best with the clearances you built into the motor.
350 Crate Motor. Many choices in manufactures. Google with the term "350 Chevy Crate Motor".any Chevy v8 will fit. small block crate motor best bet. i like the zz4s.AnswerThere is a variety of GM Performance Parts High Output 350 and 383 engines that would easily replace a 305 with no engine bay or wiring modifications. Check out any GM warehousing distributor such as Summit Racing Equipment, Scoggin-Dickey Performance Center, Apple Chevrolet and others.
You need to find someone that has an advance timing light. With it they can set the total advance at 35 degrees at 2,000 RPM. That will be your best performance setting.

Every carburetor has the ability to provide good performance. Best to pick a carb for which you can get local support if it needs repair or tuning. I like Holley, but it's because I know how to tune one. I don't know if this is the best carb. for a 350 chevy, but if it is a 4 barrel I strongly recommend an Edelbrock 600 cfm. If the 350 is really hi pro., you may want to go a little bigger. although bigger is not always better.( this is only my opinion from experence.)
the temp of the intake manifold is controlled by the temp of the water in the block.
Probably not.
