DNA and RNA are the two kinds of nucleic acids. either of them is present in every living system.

Property DNA RNA

  1. Sugar Deoxyribose Ribose
  2. Structure double stranded single stranded
  3. Bases A,T,G,C A,U(Uracil),G,C
  4. Synthesis Replicates by DNA Polymerase RNA Polymerase frm DNA
  5. Types A,B(most common),Z mRNA,rRNA,tRNA

The process of synthesis of DNA is called replication, while for RNA it is called transcription.

Exceptions of single stranded DNA and double stranded RNA are found in viruses.

The 3 types of mRNA are found in all organsims and play in imp role in protein synthesis.

1 - Ribose contains a pentose sugar named 'ribose' in its nucleotides, while DNA contains 'deoxyribose' which is the same, except that it is missing on oxygen atom.

2 - DNA has a nitrogenous base names Thymine (which bonds with adenine) while in RNA, this base is replaces by Uracil.

3 - DNA is a double stranded molecule, while RNA is a single stranded molecule.

What the difference between rna and dna in number of strands?

the difference between DNA and RNA AS DNA ARE DOUBLE STANDED AND RNA IS SINGLE STANDED

What is a difference between rna and dna molecules?

One of the bases of RNA is uracil while one of the bases of DNA is thymine.

In what ways do the chemical structures of DNA and rna differ?

One of the major differences between DNA and RNA is the sugar, with 2-deoxyribose replaced by ribose in RNA. From ChaCha!

What is major difference between normal DNA helix and RNA helix?

DNA is double stranded while RNA only has one strand.

What are main activities of DNA and RNA?

Storage of Biologically essential information; as well as the replication, transcription and translation [into proteins] of this Genetically stored information. The chemical structural difference between Dna and Rna is very slight - however that small difference yields huge differences in Functionality of these biomolecular compounds.

Bacteria has both DNA and RNA where as Virus has either DNA or RNA

What is the difference between cytidine in DNA and cytidine in RNA?

Cytidine is composed of one molecule each of cytosine and ribose. The cytosine molecule is the same between DNA and RNA, the difference is in the sugar backbone. In RNA it is ribose while in DNA it is deoxyribose.

What is the major difference between normal DNA double helix and RNA double helix?

The term double helix refers to the structure formed by double-stranded molecules of nucleic acids. Only DNA forms a double helix because RNA is only single-stranded.

What is the difference between RNA and DNA with respect to the bases involved?

RNA has uracil; DNA has thymine (5-methyl uracil). The other difference (and the reason for the difference in the names) is that the sugar in RNA is ribose, but in DNA it is 2-deoxyribose.

What are three main difference between RNA and DNA?

DNA has a deoxyribose sugar; RNA has a ribose sugar DNA is a double stranded helix; RNA is a single stranded helix RNA has the nitrogen base uracil instead of thymine (thymine is one of the four bases in DNA).

Difference between RNA and DNA base pairing?

There is no thymine in RNA, there is uracil instead. So in DNA the base pairs are adenine - thymine and cytosine-guanine, and in RNA adenine-uracil and cytosine-guanine.
