Calcium stearate is carboxylate of calcium that is found in some lubricants and surfactants. It is a white waxy powder.

It is produced by heating stearic acid, a fatty acid, and calcium oxide.

It is also formed when sodium stearate is added to hard water (as scum).

Sodium stearate + CaSO4 -----> C36H70CaO4 + Na2SO4

OR

Sodium stearate + Ca(HCO3)2-------------> C36H70CaO4 + NaHCO3

Anyway, just wanted to refresh your memory a little bit...

The formula is, as mentioned earlier :

C36H70CaO4

Oh, and sodium stearate's just a fancy word for soap...
