The official chemical name of this polyimide is: Poly(5,7-dihydro-1,3,5,7-tetraoxobenzo[1,2-c:4,5-c']dipyrrole-2,6[1H,3H]-diyl-1,4 phenyleneoxy-1,4-phenylene).

But compared to " Poly-oxydiphenylene-pyromellitimide" it doesn't help so much, it is even worse.

This polymer is obtained from the condensation of oxydiphenylene diamine :

H2N-C6H4-O-C6H4-NH2

and an aromatic cyclic dianhydride, the pyromellitic anhydride which is the benzene tetra carboxylic dianhydride:

O(CO)2Ph(CO)2O

where Ph stands for the aromatic ring , and the cyclic anhydride are figured by O(CO)2 (note it forms a 5 atoms ring with 2 aromatic carbons.

So the Kapton structure can be roughly written as:

[-N-C6H4-O-C6H4-N(CO)2Ph(CO)2-]n

Hoping it helps...
