...First off, the spelling is wrong. It's "palmitic" acid, not "palmatic" acid. The formula is C15H31CO2CH3. I hope that helps. =]] ---- resources: http://www.biodiesel.org/pdf_files/fuelfactsheets/Weight&Formula.PDF

There's a Wikipedia link in the Related Links section. It's not entirely clear from the article unless you already know a bit about biochemistry, but "sodium palmate" is not actually a chemical compound but a mixture of several different compounds, one of which is the very similarly named sodium palmitate (the sodium salt of palmitic acid).

What is the detergent soap bar formula?

Sodium Stearate , or Sodium Palmate. The formulas are Sodium stearate CH3(CH2)16COO^-Na^+ Sodium, palmate CH3(CH2)13COO^-Na^+ Soaps that lather (dissolve) in salt water have the sodium ion replace by a potassium ion (K^+). This is because of the common ion effect of sodium in sodium stereate and sadium in sodium chloride of salt water.

What are the sources of soap?

A soap factory. Soap is the chemical sodium stearate, or sodium palmate. It is made in a factory by boiling together, sodium hydroxide (lye) and stearic acid, or palmitic acid.

How does soap clean surfaces?

Soap is the organic salt 'Sodium palmate'/stearate. This substance has an ionic bond between the sodium ion and the palmate/stearate. This ioinic bond makes it water soluble. The palmate or stearate is a long organic chain , making it miscible with organic oils and fats etc., So it will absorb oil, fat, grease, etc. As humans our skin contains natural oils. If we do not wash for a lomg period , these oils accumalate, and we fell 'dirty'. So we lather the soap in water to dissolve the block/tablet. . Then we wash the lather on our skin and the long organic chain in the lather, absorbs the oils on our skin, making us feel clean.

Sodium carbonate it is insoluble or soluble?

Sodium carbonate is SOLUBLE. It is an extremely good electrolyte and cleaner. It also removes nasty smells. Make an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate , and it will clean most things. Sodium carbonate has the formulka. Na2CO3. Commercially, it also goes by the name of 'Soda Crystals', or' Washing Soda'. NB All Group (I) metal ions, sodium included, readily dissolve in water to form solution. NNB Sodium chloride ( table salt) Sodium hydrogen carbonate *sodium bi-carbonate) sodium sulphate Sodium nitrate Sodium (acetate) ethanoate Sodium palmate/stearate (soap) Are all souble in water.
