The Ohio, Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers
The Ohio River runs through Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is formed by the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers at Point State Park in the city. The Ohio River is a significant waterway that flows westward, eventually joining the Mississippi River. Pittsburgh's location at this confluence has historically made it an important hub for transportation and commerce.
The city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is located where the Ohio, Allegheny, and Monongahela Rivers meet. It is called The Point. Originally spelled Pittsburg (no h), Pittsburgh was primarily a steel manufacturing town. It was supplied coal from coal mines in the County of Washington, Pennsylvania to the south.
Pittsburgh grew around the site of Fort Duquesne. Fort Duquesne was at what is now called The Point which is flat land where the rivers Allegheny and Monongahela converge to form the Ohio River.
