Australia is so large that its climate varies. The greater part of the continent is desert or semi-arid. Only the south-eastand south-west corners have a temperate climate and moderately fertile soil. The northern part has a tropical climate, varied between tropical rainforests, grasslands, and part desert.

The climate ranges from temperate in the south, to sub-tropical as one continues north, to tropical in the far north. In Winter, the climate is cool, dry and pleasant for most of the coast, warm in the north and cold in the south. During Summer, it is warm and humid almost along the entire coast, and the north can be subject to cyclones. As one moves inland to the Great Dividing Range and beyond, the climate becomes much drier.
