An Ankylosaurus's club was made up of two round balls of bone at the end of the tail. The bones were probably covered in a layer of keratin, the same material in human hair and fingernails or a rhino's horn.

What is an ankylosaurus covered in?

Ankylosaurus was covered in bony nodules called scutes. These created armor that made them invulnerable to attack by carnivorous dinosaurs. Ankylosaurus also had a bony tail club that it could have used for defense.

What is an ankylosaurus?

An ankylosaurus is a large, herbivorous dinosaur which lived in the Cretaceous period, noted for its heavy armour and club-like tail.

Why do Ankylosaurus rocky?

Ankylosaurus were covered in bony knobs to protect them from predators. The armor actually made them nearly impossible to attack. Furthermore, the large knobs of bone on the end of the tail, the tail club, could be swung as a lethal weapon to defend the ankylosaurus. As such, ankylosaurus were not hunted even by T-rex. They were too difficult and dangerous to attack.

What is the ankylosaurus locomotion?

Ankylosaurus, like other land animals, walked. They walked on all four of their short legs, and were relatively slow. This wasn't a problem because its bony armor and tail club made it impossible for a predator to attack it.

How did an Ankylosaurus protected?

Ankylosaurus's armor was so impenetrable that predators like Tyrannosaurus and dromaeosaurid dinosaurs probably never attacked it. If a predatory dinosaur attacked it, Ankylosaurus could have killed the enemy with a blow from its tail club.

What were ankylosaurus defenses?

Ankylosaurus's main defense was its nearly impenetrable, bony armor plates that covered its head, neck, back, sides, and tail. Its secondary defense was a tail club that could have been used lethaly against a predatory dinosaur. Because they were so formidable, adult Ankylosaurus didn't have any predators.

Who where the enemies?

An adult Ankylosaurus was so heavily armored and well protected by its defensive tail club that they had no natural enemies. However, a young Ankylosaurus could fall prey to Tyrannosaurus or dromaeosaurid raptors.

What would a dinosaur have to do to the ankylosaurus to wound it up?

Ankylosaurus was so covered in bony armor on its back, head, neck, tail, and sides that it would have been virtually impossible for a large theropod to even reach a vulnerable part of the Ankylosaurus. Reaching a vulnerable part of the Ankylosaurus would be made even more difficult by its tail club, which would deliver lethal blows to an attacker. To wound an Ankylosaurus, a dinosaur would have to attack its underbelly while avoiding blows from its tail club. Ankylosaurus's belly was less than three feet above the ground, so even fitting under it to attack it would have been difficult for any predatory dinosaur of sufficient strength to injur its underbelly. Another means of wounding an Ankylosaurus would be to flip it over, although that would be impossible on a practical level for any dinosaur, even Tyrannosaurus. The last method for wounding, even killing, an Ankylosaurus would be to force it off of a sufficiently high cliff, because when it fell its bones would be broken by its own weight. However, it would be very difficult to do that, because the Ankylosaurus would simply stand its ground and defend itself with its tail club. Ankylosaurus was so formidable that fossil evidence suggests they were almost never attacked by predators.

What does an ankylosaurus look like?

The name Ankylosaurus means "fused lizard." This refers to the fact that many of the bones in the skeleton of Ankylosaurus were fused together in order to strengthen them enough to support the Ankylosaurus's heavy armor.

Why did the nickname armoredtank has been given to the ankylosaurus?

They probably called Ankylosaurus the "armored tank" because it was so densely covered in bony armor plates on its head, neck, back, sides, and tail, just like a tank is armored to protect it from gunshots. Some other things Ankylosaurus shares with tanks are that it was bulky and hard to flip, and they were both well armed: a tank has guns, and an Ankylosaurus has a lethal tail club.
