First of all, it's concrete building construction. Cement is an ingredient in concrete.A story pole is a piece of wood (usually a 2x2) or a square metal tube that is marked with a frequently used dimension for the rough elevation of decking forms. The forms will be set from the floor up using the story pole instead of using a tape measure. The forms will be fine graded later with either a builders level or a laser.
There is no 'standard' size for a house. The thickness of the slab depends on the state building code, local building codes, soil, and whether the house is single or multiple story. Most typically they are 8 inches thick and are laid over at least 4 inches or more of gravel. Slabs for mobile homes or very small cottages are sometimes 6 inches thick.
For instance a tall light house building has only one floor while Empire State Building (a multi storey building) has 102 floors.
I would hire a leak detection company first. They should be able to pinpoint the leak to within 1 foot. A leak detection company is not always a plumber, but they can be. Ask them. Use someone like United Leak Detection or American leak detection Than I would consider either jackhammering thru the floor and fix the pipe, or bypassing all that and just run new lines thru the walls and or attic. If you are in a warm climate this can be a better option for you. In cold climates, you need to have a second story so that freezing is not a problem. Problem is that your leak might just be the first one of many to come. Thus therefore, I would recommend just bypassing all the jackhammering and such, and just have the plumber run new lines. So my answer is: run new lines thru the walls or attic. Unless you can't then you won't.
