Not at all. All that really matters is the quality of the portfolio. Going to college is great for the knowledge, as well as networking, but the degree is not necessary to get into the industry.

Actually even a high school graduate can say "oh, I'm a personal trainer" and that makes him a trainer. There are no laws or regulations that say that they need a degree or certification. However, most gyms will ask that you have a certification. because that way if some one tries to sue them, they can say that you are certified and know what you are doing.
