The end of the version that I remember, Rumplestiltskin was so angry that the queen had guessed his name correctly that he stomped his feet so hard that they went deep into the ground, and he was never seen again.
Poor mother likes to boast of only daughter's (absent) abilities. Claims that her daughter can spin straw into gold (lie). King hears of this and is so naive and greedy he opts to try the poor girl out. He locks her in a dungeon with a stack of straw and a spinning wheel and under threat of death demands she produce. The poor girl is a bit stressed and desperate to know what to do. Suddenly a strange little man appears (Rumplestiltskin of course) and offers to do her work for her if she will give him her first born child. The girl agrees - the little man delivers. The king is so impressed he marries the girl off to his son the crown prince (so no one else can lay claim to her of course) The girl has a child. The little man appears and demands the child in payment. The girl begs for an exception. The little man relents and says she can keep the child if she can guess his name. By bureaucratic manipulations she succeeds.
The third day that Rumelstiltskin visits the maiden, he makes her promise to give him her first born child as payment for turning the straw to gold, unless she can tell come up with his name. The moment of suspense comes when Rumpelstiltskin after the birth of the girls child shows up to collect the child. The girl feigns ingorance at first and then (having learned of his name through a messenger boy) tell him his correct name.
In the end of the story "Rumpelstiltskin," the imp is so furious at being thwarted that he stomps his foot into the ground and then tears himself in two.
