Amongst the uneducated populous there is a debate over the validity of evolution. This is mostly due to evolution's conflict with religious ideas.
However this controversy doesn't exist within the scientific community, it is generally agreed upon due to the observation of evolution (the flu changes every year and requires a new vaccine as a result), the fossil record and its experimental track record.
