That depends on the make and size of your tires, check with the manufactor of the tires.
by getting all tires to the correct pressure, this includes the spare.
I have a 2009 328i and the manual says it should be 32psi front and 36psi back...with cold tires.
All the tires have a sensor to measure tire pressure. If any of the tires (including the spare) are low in tire pressure the light will be on. Just check all tires. Don't know why theres a sensor for the spare but after you check the pressure to make sure that it's correct the warning light should go out. If it still is on and all your tires have the correct pressure then I'd take it to the dealer to have it checked out.
The recommended pressure is listed on the sticker on the drivers door jamb.

The light should reset itself after all 5 tires are at the correct pressure. Yes, you have to do the spare tire too. If the light stays on after pressures have been corrected, you need to contact your dealer. The light should reset itself after all 5 tires are at the correct pressure. I would think you could call GM or get aftermarket tire pressure sensors that are either adjustable with the pressure range or just have a higher set pressure.
When my tire pressure light came on i just went to a local gas station and checked the tire pressure on all of my tires and made sure it was the correct PSI. If its not, just fill them to the correct amount and the light should go off. If it doesnt, take it to the VW dealership.. that's what i did.
The correct pressure is indicated on a plaque on the inside of the doorpost at the driver's seat.
