No it wasn't, that was the Ford Mustang that was available with the 428 Cobrajet. The Firebird was available with a 428 though.

What year/spec mustang? A '65 6 cylinder would be slower but a '69 428 Cobra jet would probably be faster.
The Cobra jet Mustangs were the brain Child of Mr Carol Shelby. The Cobra Jet engines that powered them were a development of Ford.
There are various engine sizes for both of these cars. For example, the Lamborghini can sport an engine which develops 612 bhp @6500 rpm (12 cyc), while the engine for a 69 mustang comes in at 428 cu in (7 L) V-8 with 355 bhp @5200 rpm. (the Cobra Jet & Super Cobra Jet). Impressive, but not in the same league as a lamborghini.
1965 and 1966 Gt350's had a 271 hp 289, modified to produce 306 hp.1967 and 1968 Gt350 had the 289 with a COBRA aluminum hi-rise.A GT 500 was added, equipped with the 355 horsepower 428 Police Interceptor.Carrol Shelby stopped production of his 2 seat Cobra sports car in 1967,the COBRA name was then applied to the Mustang for 1968.Early in 1968 Ford unveiled the GT500KR "King of the Road" which featureda 428 cubic-inch Cobra Jet V8 rated at 335 horsepower.1969 and 1970 Carroll Shelby quit working with Ford in mid 1969, the GT350's got a 351 cubic inch V8, no change in the GT500 except both were heavily modified in the body, Carrol had very little design input in these models. The building of Shelby Mustangs was ended with the 1970 model which were in fact left over 1969 models.
