Mladineo is pronounced MLA-di-NE-o. The strongest accent is on the "NE"

As Americans we used to say the name rhymed with "bloody nail" in English.

Mladineo is a Dalmatian/Croatian name that was changed from Mladinich during the time of the Venetian Empire. The name Mladineo was first recorded in the Islands of Vis and Brac in the Adriatic. At this time in history these islands were located at the southern boundary of the Venetian Empire. They had to fight the Turks from the Ottoman Empire. Apparently, the Mladinich families fought so bravely that the Doge of Venice awarded the family with a title of nobility, Duke, and Italianized their name from Mladinich to Mladineo.

As unusual as the name might seem, with the advent of the internet we have found Mladineos in Italy, Chile, Argentina, France and the USA. The people from these Adriatic islands were seafarers and many generations of Mladineos became ship captains. Perhaps this is how such an unusual name is found in so many parts of the world?
