∙ 14y agoGoldfish prefer any sunlight. Since they don't have eyelids, their eyes are sensitive to sudden changes in light. If you want to turn on an aquarium light, make sure to turn on lights in the room around the fish tank beforehand so that the fish are not hurt by the sudden, blinding light.

∙ 12y agoThe light is not so much for the goldfish as for the plants that SHOULD be in there with them. Water plants are necessary to use up Carbon dioxide and Nitrates and produce Oxygen for the fish. They will not live without light. A good time span is on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours.
