"In between" is a correct spelling, but a frequent and technically incorrect use. The word "between" already means "in between", so use "between" by itself. Example : "The catalog was (in) between two books on the shelf." * Also, many uses of "in between" or "between" can be better phrased, especially since it may not exclusively apply to a central point. Example : "(In between) his job and going to school, Bill never had any free time." - "Because he had a job and attended school, Bill never had any free time."
