Duramax firing order 1 - 2 - 7 - 8 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 3. The placement is 1, 3, 5, 7 on one bank and 2, 4, 6, 8 on the other bank. The cylinder farthest forward is number 1.

1357 on the passenger side, 1 being at the front of the engine, 7 at the back. 2468 on the driver side, 2 being at the front of the engine, 8 at the back.
Left Front, this is an Isuzu engine and is numbered opposite of GM engines.
Duramax
Duramax is a diesel motor. Most diesels have a built in governor to keep the engine speed from going too high. I suspect that the engine is hitting the top speed and the governor is kicking in just before you shift.
