Apathy.

A Deeper Treatment:

William Blake is credited with a quote that no one seems to be able to accurately locate:

"All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing."

Whether or not Mr. Blake actually gave this bit of wisdom to us is unimportant. That it exists is all that is necessary. And, it serves well to answer this question.

Anyone can read "Als die Nazis mich holten" the poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller on a certain WikiAnswers Supervisor's profile page. This work of verse juxtaposes nicely with the quote above. In essence, when evil came knocking in the early middle of the last century Germany, no one did anything; and, when that evil finally came to the doorstep of one who watched all of it before, no one was left to do anything. This is an obvious danger inherent in indifference and inaction. The lesson is to beware what you ignore. It may (and probably will) come back and bite you.
