Migrate is from the Latin migrare, to change one's abode.

To migrate is to move from one location to another, and sometimes back again. Some animals migrate due to seasonal weather changes or similar alterations in conditions. Others will migrate to breeding grounds to mate and spawn. All Monarch Butterflies in the Eastern US migrate to a single winter location in Mexico each year, and it is the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th succeeding generation that arrives in the north in the spring.

Human migrations have occurred when societies sought better conditions in other geographical or political locations.
