The answer to this question will depend upon your definition of 'animal'. There is a very broad 'gray area' between the protists and what we normally consider animals. One definition could be 'metazoa capable of digestion' in this case Volvox would be a good contender for the distinction. On the fifth day of this earth, birds and sea animals were created.
