I imagine the reason ballet was invented was for entertainment reasons. Probably people wanted to create a sport that involved theatre without having to speak words, but to explain them with your dance, and facial expressions.

Absolutely. Every type of dance can be expressive. So much depends on your facial expressions. I have done very meaningful hop hop dances in the past that are meant to get a message and emotion across.

Ballet is about emotion telling someone how you feel in dance, if you can give emotion by dancing you've mastered the dance.
