Our atmosphere consists of a number of gases like N2 (nitrogen), O2 (oxygen), argon, CO2 (carbon dioxide), and H2O (water vapor).

Among these gases CO2, water vapor, CH4 (methane, produced in damp areas), etc. are called greenhouse gases because they basically keep the atmosphere warm by trapping the infrared radiation emitted by the sun and reflected back off the earth.

Without these earth would have been a cold planet. Green house gas basically keep the earth warm by trapping the heat radiation by the H2O, CO2, CH4 etc.

Carbon dioxide from cars and factories is exhausted into the atmosphere where it creates a layer like a blanket. Heat from the sun penetrates this layer and reaches earth. Some of this heat normally would bounce back through the atmosphere into space but the extra layer traps the heat on earth.

The information used about CO2 levels is taken from ice cores in polar areas. The data for CO2 levels for the past few years has been from next to a volcano in the Caribbean. Chance of different levels of CO2 at different locations giving wrong impression? Surely not.

I'm not trying to be prejudiced but it's true, if you're going to change this answer then don't remove the fact.

The greenhouse effect is what takes place when the sun's rays travel to earth, heating the air and soil. This heat radiates up from the earth's surface and gets trapped inside earth's atmosphere by a manmade layer of pollutants known as greenhouse gases. The term is used to compare the effect that the glass panels of a greenhouse have in trapping heat inside. The accelerated greenhouse effect is the primary cause of global warming.

What is the process by which gases in the atmosphere absorb and reradiate heat?

Greenhouse Effect

What is a sentence with greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is the natural way that the Earth keeps warm. Too many extra greenhouse gases turn the greenhouse effect into an enhanced greenhouse effect. The enhanced, or accelerated, greenhouse effect is causing global warming.

The trapping of heat by a planet's atmosphere is called what?

it allows solar radiation to penetrate to the surface!

What is another name for enhanced greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect is the natural process by which greenhouse gases keep the earth's temperature at a comfortable level suitable for human existence. The enhanced greenhouse effect is the increase in greenhouse gases that is leading to global warming. The term "enhanced greenhouse effect" is also referred to as the "anthropogenic greenhouse effect" and is the idea that humans may have an effect on global climate. It is also referred to as the "runaway greenhouse effect".

How do you use The greenhouse effect in a sentence?

the greenhouse effect is a global phenomenon.

What do humans do to effect the greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect keeps us all warm enough for life. The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming.

When did the Greenhouse effect start?

The Greenhouse effect started long before humans were on Earth. The Greenhouse effect is only intensified by the presence of humans.

How is the greenhouse effect caused on a molecular level?

The greenhouse effect is caused on a molecular level by the greenhouse gases combing, thus forming the greenhouse effect and that's what causes it to be on a molecular level.
