Best Answer

A circuit that produces an alternating output current of a certain frequency determined by the characteristics of the circuit components.

Generally speaking however; An oscillator moves from its highest state, to its lowest state in quick succession, A pendulum can be considered an oscillator.

The speed of the alterations is called the frequency, and the 'distance' traveled can be related to wavelength of the wave or oscillation.

Resonate frequency is the point at which resistance to the oscillations is at its absolute minimum and the amplitude of the wave is greatly increased, this is because the wave tends to store energy, or rather when encountering resistance the wave is not perfect and has 'ripples' or 'small spikes' within the wave, after the wave reaches resonance it becomes smooth and all that built up energy is forced into the cycle of the wave.

To "oscillate" is to change repetitively while bounded. For example, a heavy weight suspended by a spring will oscillate vertically until coming to rest. Similarly, the familiar sine function oscillates, while the tangent function does not; the tangent function hits all real numbers and thus is not bounded. Thus, in some sense, an oscillating function is one that can be modeled with a sine wave or combination of such waves.

Can you hook a pedal up to a cabinet with no amp head?

The cabinet is simply a box with a speaker in it. A speaker is a cone and a coil mounted to a frame. Neither the box, nor the speaker has any power source of its own. To create sound, a oscilating voltage must be passed to the speaker coil. Connecting a guitar or pedal directly to the speaker coil will provide an oscilating voltage but it is so tiny that you won't be able to hear anything. The head contains the amplifier. This takes the tiny oscilating voltage of the guitar or pedal and increases it enough to move the speaker cone and vibrate the air so that you can hear it.
