∙ 14y agoFirst Degree burns are the least of the three. Destroys the epidermis only. Second Degree burns destroys the epidernis and the dermis as well but does not destroy the nerves. As such, this burn is the most painful of the three. Third Degree burns destroy the nerves as well as tissue. Because the nerves are destroyed, the pain is not as bad as 2nd. degree.

∙ 7y agoA third degree burn has burned through the epidermis and dermis, and has damaged tissue below these structures. It's not uncommon for new 3rd degree burns to not be painful, as a lot of the neural structure has been denatured or burned away.
First degree burns are much like sunburns.
Second degree burns result in blisters.
Fourth degree burns are usually not recognized by medical authorities, but are described as descending to the bone.

It is the most minimal burn, caused by things like too much sun.
A third degree burn and also other third degree skin injuries have the following properties:
- Both the upper layer (epidermis) and the lower layer (dermis) of the skin are totally taken away, dead or damaged and the injury reaches down to the fatty layer under the skin.
- A third degree burn cannot heal by growth from the bottom and up, but must heal by growth from the rims of the damage.
- The skin grown back by the healing process will not contain all its normal components. It willl not have pores, sweat glands and hair.
- The healed area will apear more or less as a scar.
It is thus not the areal extension of the damage that will classify it as third degree, but the depth of the injury.
Third degreee burns of some extension are typically treated by transplanting thin skin grafts taken from areas without injury. The graft will then grow in thickness and make a full skin, but it will not be a totally normal skin. The areas from which the graft was taken must also heal from the bottom and up.
