The most simple and practical design of a valve is a flap that keeps liquid from going into one direction, but allows it to freely flow in another direction. The name for this particular valve is called a check valve.

Why is there no shut off valve for the shower?

The absence of a shut off valve for the shower may be due to the design of the plumbing system. Some showers are designed without a shut off valve to regulate water flow, relying instead on the main water supply valve for control. This design choice may be for simplicity or cost-saving reasons.

What is the difference between a Schrader valve and a Presta valve pump?

Depends entirely upon the valve design and how it has failed. I would guess that it needs either simple cleaning/descaling or replacing, not repair.

How does a presta valve work in a bicycle tire?

A presta valve works in a bicycle tire by using a small, threaded valve stem that is opened and closed by unscrewing or screwing a small nut at the top of the valve. This design helps to create a secure seal and allows for high-pressure inflation of the tire.
