There are people who are licensed to take care of abandoned animal babies. Contact one in your area. Are these Org. listed somewhere, by Areacodes or Zipcodes, so when and if you have an emergency you can find the nearest one that can help with the type of animal that you may have found? If so, that would be really helpful. If anybody knows anything about a listing, or a number that could get you in touch with someone who could help, please add to this info. Thanks

Opossum's favorite foods are:

  • Apples
  • Persimmons
  • berries and other fruits
  • small mammals
  • insects
  • birds (most of their diet)
  • corns

They like to eat:

  • small rodents
  • snakes
  • slugs, grubs, and worms
  • overripe fruits
  • vegetation
  • some grains

As pets, they need a very high grade cat food, supplemented by high calcium/low phosphorous fruits and vegetables, and some fish, chicken, eggs and almonds.

Possums (which are different to the opossums of North America) are essentially omnivorous, meaning they will eat almost anything.

In the wild, they eat young shoots, leaves, flowers, nectar and fruit of a variety of trees and shrubs. They also feed on insects.

Possums also enjoy a feed of bread and honey put out by helpful suburban homeowners. However, it is best not to feed possums as they may become dependent on people for their food supply.
