Grammatically and contextually they have many differences. The main difference concerning to English are the phrasal verbs, and idioms (both on English and Portuguese). However, all depends on the knack of the apprentices for foreigner languages. Examples : English > How old are you? If literally translated to Portuguese, the result would be : Como velho é você ?, whose meaning in Portuguese would sound very weird. Words in a sentence on English very often don't follow the same sequence as on Portuguese.
