according to motorcraft.com it lists ( 5R55E ) ( 5R55W ) ( 5R55S ) automatic transmissions for the 2002 Ford Explorer 4 door models
Ford 5R55S Automatic 5 Speed Transmission 1st gear 3.22 to 1 2nd gear 2.29 to 1 3rd gear 1.55 to 1 4th gear 1.00 to 1 5th gear .71 to 1 (This is a late model Ford Mustang Transmission) * not to be confused with 5R55E, 5R55N, 5R55W they have different gear ratios
the 5r55s transmission holds 35 quarts of transmission fluid ====================================================== so why would the 2006 Lincoln LS Owner Guide show that the 5R55S automatic transmission takes 11.9 quarts ( that would be for the entire system )
I believe that is the ( 5R55S ) 5 speed automatic transmission Open the drivers door and look for an information sticker , it will show the transmission code ( TR ) The code for the ( 5R55S transmission is " L " )
Manual: TR3650 Automatic: 5R55S
On a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer : ( No , I believe it is the 5R55S , 5 speed automatic transmission )
According to the 2005 Lincoln LS Owner Guide : The 5R55S automatic transmission does not have a dipstick
For a 5R55S automatic transmission : For the entire system ( transmission , converter , lines , cooler ) The 2010 Ford Explorer Owner Guide shows ( 12.7 U.S. quarts ) The 2004 Lincoln LS Owner Guide shows ( 11.9 U.S. quarts ) It varies for the application when you are going to " fill it up "
According to the 2006 Ford Mustang Owner Guide : The ( 5R55S ) automatic transmission does not have a fluid level dipstick
According to the 2006 Ford Explorer owners manual : The 5R55S automatic transmission takes Motorcraft MERCON - V - automatic transmission fluid The 6R60 automatic transmission takes Motorcraft MERCON - SP - automatic transmission fluid
Transmission fluid Motorcraft MERCON V ATF Automatic Transmission (5R55S) 13.0 quarts (12.3L)2 Transmission fluid Motorcraft MERCON SP ATF Automatic Transmission (6R60) 11.2 quarts (10.6L)2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ In a 1999 Ford Explorer : The type used should be engraved in the automatic transmission fluid dipstick
According to the owners guide, a 2010 Ford Explorer Uses: Automatic Transmission 9.0qt of "MERCON LV ATF" So ATF fluid Manual Transmission: 2.4qt of SAE 75W-90 Gear Oil ======================================================== According to the 2010 Ford Explorer Owner Guide that I was looking at : For the 5R55S automatic transmission ( MERCON - V automatic transmission fluid ) For the 6R80 automatic transmission ( MERCON LV automatic transmission fluid as mentioned above ) The Owner Guide doesn't mention a manual transmission
