According to the 2006 Ford Explorer owners manual : The 5R55S automatic transmission takes Motorcraft MERCON - V - automatic Transmission Fluid The 6R60 automatic transmission takes Motorcraft MERCON - SP - automatic transmission fluid
NV 3500 trans..................Synchromesh transmission fluid or equivalent NV 4500 trans..................Syn-torq synthetic transmission fluid or equivalent ZF S6-650 trans...............Trans-Synd synthetic transmission fluid or equivalent
You do not change the trans fluid. It is a life time synthetic fluid.
Down tube that holds trans dipstick.
as far as I know you can not add fluid because the trans. is a self enclosed trans.(if you have slippage, its time for repair.
I believe its a synthetic trans fluid it should tell you in your owners manual

If you drain the Trans. AND Torque Converter you will need 10-12 QTS. of fluid
According to my Haynes repair manual : For a 1994 Ford Explorer A4LD automatic transmission : ( MERCON automatic transmission fluid is used )
Starting in 2002 the ford Explorer 4 door doesn't have an automatic transmission dipstick
go to a transmission shop. the filter is located in the trans fluid pan. its best to have fluid and filter chnged at the same time
I believe that is Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid , pull your transmission dip stick out and confirm with printing on dip stick
On a 1995 Ford Explorer ( automatic transmission ) You use a funnel and add transmission fluid through the dipstick tube ( it is located in the engine compartment , by the firewall , towards the passenger side of the vehicle , where the transmission is bolted to the rear of the engine )
