the 92-95 civic has a different body style than the 96-98 civic and the 99-00 civic had minor cosmetic changes compared to the 96-98 model. the Engines were the same from 96-00. the EX engine is the D16Y8. in 99-00 they added the SI trim which consist of the B16 engine. its a 1.6 liter DOHC VTEC Engine. the 92-95 civic EX had the same motor as the 92-95 SI which was the 1.6 liter SOHC VTEC engine with engine code D16Z6. as for the difference between the 96-98 and the 99-00 civics, like i said minor cosmetic changes. such as the front bumper. the 96-98 had a single airdam in the front bumper whereas the 99-00 has 2 side airdams in addition to the middle one. also the 92-95 are OBD1, the 96-98s are OBD2a and 99-00s are OBD2b.
The difference between the two engines is a Honda civic dx stock engine is 1.6L single overhead cam nonvetch motor and the Honda civi si stock engine is a 1.6L doul overhead cam vetch motor. I'm not positive about the exact number but the difference is about 70 horse power between the dx and si motors
