It means that when you want to use point gate with cold runner, 3 plate mould will be used. The 3rd plate in 3 plate mould is similar to the monifold for hot runner, is for material flowing.
The advantages to use 3 plate mould is the point gate and automatic dropping of material, low cost. The disadvantage is material waste because of sprue gate.
